The R8 V10 RWD

This mid-mounted sports car leaves others in the dust, accelerating from zero to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds (3.8 seconds for the Spyder) with a top speed of 329 km/h (327 km/h for the Spyder). And it reaches 550 Nm of torque, which it distributes to its rear wheels with a seven-speed S tronic. This is 10 Nm more torque than the Audi R8 V10 RWD. The mechanical limited-slip differential perfectly distributes torque based on the driving condition, ensuring high traction even when the roads are wet. As with all R8s, the body is made of aluminum using the Audi Space Frame (ASF) design, with large parts made of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP). So the coupe version of the R8 V10 Performance RWD weighs just 1590 kg, with the Spyder version weighing 1695 kg.

Drifts can be controlled

The suspension and driving dynamics are specifically balanced for rear-wheel drive. When Sport mode is activated in the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system, the suspension setup and control systems will allow controlled drift. Electromechanical steering provides a close contact with the road. Available for the first time on the R8 rear-wheel drive, Dynamic Steering provides more precise feedback and handling. This makes driving more dynamic with more direct steering, for example on winding country roads or when cornering. It also increases comfort by facilitating steering, such as when parking or maneuvering. The RWD sports suspension is specially adapted for rear-wheel drive, and has double wishbones and a passive lock differential. 40:60 axle distribution. The 19″ and 20″ ultra-light aluminum alloy wheels ensure precise handling and precise trajectory control in fast cornering. Cup wheels, 245/30 R20 in the front and 305/30 R20 in the rear, are optionally available and provide additional grip and dynamics. Distinctive design features of the Audi R8 V10 Performance quattro

The hyper-sports styling is inspired by its GT4 siblings. Elements of this include the wide, flat grille in a matte black monocoque radiator with the R8 logo surrounded by large air intakes, the front splitter and rear outlet grille as well as the oval exhaust pipes. The hatch under the front bonnet is reminiscent of the legendary Audi Sport quattro. The new R8 is available in ten color options. One of them is Ascari Blue Metallic, a color that was previously only available for the R8 V10 Performance quattro.

The design’s narrow lines set the tone for the car’s interior as well. The most striking element is the “Monoposto” – the large, highly defined arch that extends over the area in front of the driver’s seat and is very reminiscent of a racing cockpit. The “Monoposto” encloses a virtual cockpit with a 12.3-inch screen integrated into a self-contained housing. The R8 leather multifunction steering wheel plus two or, in the Performance version, four control satellites, each for Audi drive select use, to start the engine, activate the performance mode and engine sound as well as control the Audi virtual cockpit. Drivers and passengers can enjoy the ride in the newly available R8 bucket or the sport seats upholstered in leather and Alcantara. A badge with the RWD logo flashes in front of the passenger seat.

Production is largely by hand

The high-performance, rear-wheel drive R8 V10 engine was built – largely by hand – at the “Böllinger Höfe” plant at Audi’s site in Neckarsulm, Germany. This is also the production site of the LMS GT4 race car, which is derived from the Series model and uses approximately 60 percent of carryover parts.
