Toyota’s Corolla compact sedan and four-door hatchback refitted for 2023 model year; The most significant change is the newly available all-wheel drive for the Corolla Hybrid Sedan. The Corolla 2023 also gets minor changes to the front and rear styling and updated safety and technology features. In addition, Toyota also announced a new hybrid powertrain for the 2023 Corolla Cross SUV.

New hybrid four-wheel drive, new LE Trim . gas engine
The new all-wheel drive version of the Corolla Hybrid gains an electric motor that drives the rear wheels. The engine engages the rear wheels when starting from a stop, and it also engages when front wheel slip is detected. Toyota hasn’t provided estimated gas mileage figures for the AWD Corolla Hybrid, but the EPA’s estimate for the 2022 Corolla Hybrid front-wheel drive is 53/52/52 mpg City / Highway / Combined.
Toyota also says that the hybrid system drivetrain and lithium-ion battery pack have been updated and that the hybrid system is more powerful than before. The 2022 Corolla Hybrid is rated at 121 horsepower, and Toyota says horsepower numbers for the 2023 Corolla Hybrid will be available closer to when it goes on sale later this year.
Toyota has also replaced the gas-only 1.8-liter four-cylinder Corolla LE with a 169-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder that runs on other trim levels. The 2.0-liter makes 30 horsepower more than the outgoing four-cylinder, but gets slightly better gas mileage: 31/40/34 mpg, according to Toyota estimates.
Updated technology and safety features
The Corolla 2023 has a new standard 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system that includes dual Bluetooth phone pairing, satellite radio (subscription required after three-month trial), Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The system also supports voice commands and over-the-air updates for things like map data.
The Corolla 2023 also received Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, Toyota’s suite of active safety and driver assistance features. Standard Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane-centered steering assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high-beam headlights.

Newly Available Hybrid Drive System For Corolla Cross 2023
In addition to the changes Toyota announced for the Corolla 2023, the automaker also revealed a new hybrid powertrain for the Corolla 2023 small SUV, which shares its platform with the Corolla sedan.
The 2023 Corolla Cross is offered with all-wheel drive only, and is powered by a gas-electric hybrid that produces 194 horsepower and gets the manufacturer’s estimated gas mileage of 37 mpg combined. By comparison, the 2022 Corolla Cross with all-wheel drive (AWD) gets an EPA rating. 30 mpg combined. Like the Corolla 2023, the Corolla 2023 has Toyota’s new multimedia technology and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0.
